Mental Health and Substance Abuse Issues are Covered, But Only the First Step

by Scott Suckow, Vice President, Business Development and Government Relations, Mental Health Systems

After a rough start in October, over two million Americans now have health insurance through state health exchanges, and another four million have acquired insurance through Medicaid (Medi-Cal for California). Needless to say, the road to ACA implementation has seen a few bumps.

But the good news is that as more and more Californians learn about our state's health exchange they will discover one very important and positive fact: Plans available through Covered California include parity for mental health and substance use disorders.

CPAT hosts quarterly educational seminars throughout the state for its partners and serves as a resource for diverse communities. Stay tuned for details about the first seminar of 2014, on the California Health Benefit Exchange.
